Nothing is going well for Pierre Palmade. After the road accident he caused a few weeks ago, causing one death and several injuries, the comedian would have suffered a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) on Saturday evening.
Quickly taken care of, he left the addictology department of a hospital in Villejuif, where he had been admitted with an electronic bracelet since his accident, to continue his care at the Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital in Val -de-Marne.
The 54-year-old man would now be hospitalized in a single room in the neurovascular care unit, after leaving intensive care. According to the latest information from AFP, Pierre Palmade must now be remanded in custody with a warrant, according to the Paris Court of Appeal.
What is a cerebrovascular accident (CVA)?
A CVA, also called a cerebral attack, corresponds to damage to a blood vessel, most often an artery, but it can be a vein, which will cause damage to the brain tissue.
Different types of stroke
This damage can manifest itself in several ways. In eight out of ten cases, the artery is blocked by a clot, the brain will be deprived of blood, oxygen, glucose. He will suffer and the brain tissue will be destroyed This is called an ischemic stroke, or cerebral infarction.
In 20% of cases, there will be a rupture in the wall of the artery which will cause bleeding. This is called a hemorrhagic stroke. It can be an intracerebral hemorrhage, related to a rupture of an artery inside the brain tissue. In 5% of cases it is a subarachnoid hemorrhage: the rupture takes place on the envelopes outside the brain tissue.
What are the signs of stroke?
Strokes are manifested by the sudden onset of a loss of neurological functions. There are in particular:
- mobility, which gives paralysis that affects half of the body or hemiplegia (face with deformed mouth, arm, leg) and balance disorders,
- tenderness, with loss of a significant part of his body
- language, with an inability to speak or understand called aphasia,
- vision: all of a sudden, we no longer see on one side.
In the case of subarachnoid hemorrhage, the main symptom is an extremely brutal, violent and unusual headache.
Stroke: what treatment?
Faced with a stroke, the first thing to do is to call the SAMU (15) in order to be taken care of in a hospital with a neurovascular unit.
Before initiating any treatment, it is also crucial to carry out imaging examinations. Only the MRI or the cerebral scanner can know if it is an ischemic stroke or a hemorrhagic stroke, and thus to set up the appropriate treatment.
