The 42 companies (of which 40 national) collected prizes for 11.9 billion euros (down 4.5% compared to 2020), insuring 38.9 million vehicles. The average premium paid net of tax charges is 307 euros (-4.2% compared to 2020) while the incidence of management expenses on premiums (expense ratio) was 21.8%. Acquisition and collection commissions represent 64% of management expenses, the remainder being attributable to administration and acquisition expenses.

The frequency sinister amounted to 4.92% (4.20% in 2020 and 5.89% in 2019) for a total cost of 9.1 billion euros: the total average cost per claim amounts to 4,864 euros (-3, 7% compared to 2020). Overall, the branch closed the year with a profit, with a technical result net of reinsurance of 694 million euros (-53.9% compared to 2020), corresponding to a margin per policy of 18 euros.

As for the body branch of land vehicles – CVT (non-compulsory motor liability ancillary guarantees) the 44 companies collected €3.4 billion in premiums (+6.5% compared to 2020) equal to 9.8% of non-life collection, continuing the growth trend. There were 22.4 million vehicles insured. The average premium per policy issued, net of tax charges And parafiscal, is 149 euros (+5.1% compared to 2020). The claims frequency was 5.36%, slightly lower than pre-pandemic levels, for a total cost of 2 billion euro. The total average cost per claim amounts to 1,691 euros (-0.9% compared to 2020). The branch closed the year with a profit with a technical result net of reinsurance equal to 242 million euros (-42.2% compared to 2020), corresponding to a margin per policy of 12 euros.
