Volkswagen is preparing to revolutionize with ID.Buzz. To the VW electric car series recycled materials it was ID.Buzz, and now the rest of the portfolio will follow in his footsteps.
A surprisingly large number of ID.Buzz’s interiors, headliners, carpets, seat covers recycled material used. The lower body panels are also made of recycled plastic, and so are the various plastic interior panels.
VW is particularly proud of its Seaqual yarn, which is made from 10 percent marine waste and the remaining 90 percent recycled PES yarn. Seaqual’s production is more environmentally friendly, with CO2 reduced by 32 percent.
All with pioneering work by ID.Buzz, the rest of the electric VWs are about to join the recycling business. Before the end of this year, the company refurbished ID.3 (to be released next week), ID.4, ID.5 and recently announced ID.7 offers recycled materials in its models.
Using recycled materials is just one of many steps VW has taken towards becoming a climate-neutral company. Plan, before the end of 2030 reduce carbon emissions per vehicle by 40 percent. Hard to reach the zero target but VW will confident that it can achieve by 2050.
Is this a revolution? Absolutely not, but it’s a huge step in an important direction. VW is not the first company to take this path and we hope all other manufacturers will follow suit. It hardly makes sense to introduce electric cars to protect the environment and then manufacture them using old methods and old materials. We have a lot of work to do and a lot of habits to change.
