Thales launches investigation after cyberattack

Thalès, the French electronics group, plans to recruit more than 12,000 employees worldwide in 2023, including 4,000 job creations. With the outbreak of war in Ukraine, the defense industry needs new talent.

After a year 2022 marked by good results, Thalès is hiring in all its business sectors such asaerospace, defense and security, or digital identity. The group’s management recalls that its growth dynamic has existed for many years and points out that, since 2015, Thalès has recruited at least 5,000 people per year.

In a context of renewed international tensions, the defense industry sector is on the rise: Thalès has already recruited 11,500 people last year and announces 12,000 additional hires for this year. In detail, 3,350 recruitments in Europe are planned, 730 in Asia, mainly in Singapore, as many in North America, more than 600 in Australia and 550 in India. More than 40% of these recruitments relate to research and development activities, i.e. 5,500 people, including 2,200 in France, support functions also represent 40% of recruitments, and the remaining 20% ​​to industrial production and logistics activities.

The sending of equipment to Ukraine by NATO countries is forcing defense companies to increase their production rate. France is entry into a “war economy”, Emmanuel Macron said in June 2022 during a visit to the Eurosatory arms fair. The French president had asked French armaments and defense manufacturers as Naval Group, Safran and even Thales to produce more and faster. In 2022, the defense sector performed well. Two of the three largest annual increases in the SBF 120 stock market index were signed by the manufacturer of the Rafale Dassault Aviation and the Thales technology group.
