New large demonstrations against Netanyahu

For the eighth Saturday in a row, tens of thousands of Israelis took to the streets in protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and a renegotiated bill.

This week the government went ahead with the bill which, if approved, means that the Knesset parliament can overturn rulings in the country’s highest court with a simple majority.

Netanyahu claims the law is necessary, while critics say the planned change will overturn the existing control system and give the prime minister too much power.

Saturday’s protests became one of the largest so far, and several Israeli media outlets, including Haaretz and the Jerusalem Post, report hundreds of thousands of protesters.
