Fact: Duplanti’s six world records
6.17 – Torun, Poland, 8/2 2020.
6.18 – Glasgow, 15/2/2020.
6.19 – Belgrade, 7/3 2022.
6.20 – Belgrade, 20/3, Indoor WC.
6.21 – Eugene, USA, 24/7 2022, WC, outdoor.
The world and Olympic champion decided last week not to participate in next week’s indoor EC in Istanbul.
Instead, Duplantis wants to focus on the outdoor season.
However, that did not stop the 23-year-old from reaching new heights indoors.
At the annual pole vaulting event in Clermont-Ferrand, the Swedish-American excelled.
Duplantis jumped higher than he had ever done before, beating his previous record from the outdoor World Championships in Eugene, USA last July when he took 6.21.
He needed three tries. In the first he pulled away by a small margin, while he got it wrong in the second and had to stop on the way up.
It was a good third time – and a neat jump with a margin. Highest in the world.
Duplantis went in at 5.71 which he managed with ease, also with lots of air to the bar.
Then he was above 5.81, but broke his first attempt at 5.91 in the rise.
Duplantis corrected and easily passed on the second attempt.
It was a high-class competition and three jumpers managed 5.91, in addition to Duplantis, also Kurtis Marschall, Australia, who set a personal best with it, and Menno Vloon, Netherlands.
But then it stopped the competition, while Duplantis took 6.01.
In the women’s competition, Michaela Meijer managed 4.46 and finished fourth. She had a really good attempt at a season best, 4.56.
Amalie Svabikova, Czech Republic, won in 4.66.
