Planica’s World Cup skiing continued with a minor victory for Finns, when Perttu Hyvärinen was the best Finn in the men’s 30 km combined race.

Hyvärinen was tenth. After the 15 kilometer traditional section, leading the race Iivo Niskanen dropped to 13th place.

Before the race, Niskas was even called a medal candidate, but he was unable to break the differences with the others in the traditional way of skiing. On free skiing, Niskanen fell from the pace of the top.

Hyvärinen had even better chances, but he unfortunately fell at the beginning of the free skiing.

Two very disappointed Finns were seen in the finish area. Hyvärinen also threw his skis.

Norway took a quadruple victory in the race. Simen Hegstad Krüger won gold, Johannes Hösflot Kläbo defeated at the end Sjur Röthen in the silver battle. by Paal Golberg it was a rude fate to finish fourth.

Iivo Niskanen: “You should be in better shape, bananas”

Iivo Niskanen tried to keep up the pace in the second round with traditional skiing, but was unable to break away from the leaders. The turning point was seen immediately after changing skis, when Niskanen was 20 seconds behind the leaders in the first kilometer of free skiing.

– It didn’t feel terribly bad when changing skis, but the muscle was just not as awake as it is at its best when free. Perttu fell from the front after the first lap. I myself pulled over the ice and slush on the next descent. The left leg was so cramped for the next 13 kilometers that it was impossible to get away. Nothing came of free skiing. It was just a struggle to get to the finish line, Niskanen opened.

According to Niskanen, the weather was surprisingly slippery, and the journey was not easy in the slushy weather.

– Of course I used a bit too many bangs in the second round. There were no differences until the end as I thought. Of course, the group thinned out, but unfortunately there were few other bettors in the traditional way. There was so much unnecessary work done. Of course, it was the goal to do something with the traditional, so that you could freely fight for good places, Niskanen said.

Niskanen felt that he had to try to pull with the traditional method, because previously the free skiing method had not yielded results this season.

– Hopefully the mood will improve and get something done in these games, Niskanen said.

Niskasen has the main journey ahead of him on Sunday next week, 50 kilometers on a traditional bike. In addition, Niskanen plans to compete in the relay.

– Yes, here, of course, we expect him to be able to perform well in the relay. First of all, it would tune up going to 50 kilometers. I would like the bananas to be in a little better condition so that I don’t have to wriggle around in the mud, Niskanen stated and made a wish.

Hyvärinen regretted hitting her skis – “It’s a stylish fall”

According to his own words, Perttu Hyvärinen had already calmed down when he arrived for Urheilu’s TV interview.

– Yes, that race spurred me on. The race literally went astray, but I’m in pretty good shape. It went quite well on the free today. This is still a big disappointment. I expected a lot better from myself, Hyvärinen said.

Hyvärinen was of the opinion that even after the fall, he would have had a chance to be among the top six.

– The recovery operation was successful. There just wasn’t enough luck involved, Hyvärinen said.

Hyvärinen also got to see his fall at the interview point.

– It’s a stylish fall. If you have to fall, you have to do it that way, Hyvärinen said.

Hyvärinen considered the conditions to be what should be in value competitions.

– Heavy and tough competition. Competitions of value include taking everything out of men. Surely the best wins every time. There is no need to speculate, Hyvärinen said.

Then Hyvärinen saw on TV pictures how he threw his things in disappointment in the goal area.

– Apologies to everyone. Don’t feel bad. Sometimes the atmosphere just warms up.

Hyvärinen is next aiming for the free 15 km race on Tuesday.

– Nice to go skiing it. It seems that time off tastes good. Let’s sing! Hyvärinen decided.
