HDSR claims to be the first water board to have an ozone installation in use at a sewage treatment plant. Experiments have already been carried out with ozone purification, often in combination with UV light or active carbon. But according to the water board, the use of ozone alone is effective and much cheaper than the tried-and-tested combination methods. Ozone breaks down medicine residues in the water and converts them into other substances that are much easier to process and degrade.
