Good news if you use WhatsApp: you will soon be able to edit a message after sending it, to correct or improve it. A long-awaited and constantly postponed feature. Hope this time is the right one!
Meta is busy developing WhatsApp! In just a month, the company has added new features to its instant messaging system – giving them an Instagram look – and other new features, such as the ability to send up to 100 photos and videos in one go. one time. This time around, it looks like the app is gearing up to introduce a long-awaited option – and surprisingly absent so far. The WABetaInfo site, specializing in WhatsApp updates, has spotted in a new update shared via the closed beta program on iOS, Apple’s operating system, that it should soon be possible to modify a message already sent thanks to an edit button! This will come in handy in the event of a typo or omission, when the message is written a little too hastily!
It was time ! WhatsApp users have been asking for this option for many years, which allows them to correct a typo, a spelling mistake, a bad turn of phrase or an unfortunate word. For the time being, in the event of an error or remorse, it is sufficient to delete the message sent and send a new, corrected, amended or improved one. This is all the more unfortunate since this essential function is widespread in many applications, such as Discord, Skype, Slack and Telegram. Even Twitter integrated it last April!
Message correction in WhatsApp: a function under test
Fortunately, it seems that this problem will soon be fixed. Indeed, as revealed WABetaInfo, the Meta group is still working on adding a button that would allow WhatsApp users to be able to edit a message after it has been sent. But how to edit a message? According to the beta – the test version that is currently circulating – it suffices to remain pressed for a few moments on the message to be corrected for a drop-down menu to appear. All you have to do is click on Edit to then modify the message before resending it. UA small “Edited” badge will then appear on the bubble concerned.
There should normally be no change history, but the group may change their plans until this option is released to the public. For the moment, the function is only available 15 minutes after sending the message, provided that it contains only text – impossible therefore if it contains a photo or a video -, although WABetaInfo believes that this could be added later. In addition, the update plans to add an error message intended for older versions of WhatsApp that will not support this function, through the message “You have received an edited message. You can read it if you are using the latest version of WhatsApp.“
The button should be available on all platforms (namely iOS, Android or Web, in a browser), although the date of the update has not yet been revealed. Even if this is rather encouraging information, we must nevertheless wait for confirmation from the group to be sure that this function will reach the general public. Indeed, in 2017, i.e. already five years ago, a beta version already hosted the option, but, for unknown reasons, it never made it into a public release.
