(Tiper Stock Exchange) – Eni Sustainable Mobility And Saipem have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of using fuels of a biogenic nature naval means of Saipem drilling and construction, with particular reference to operations in the Mediterranean Sea area. Saipem has a worldwide operating fleet consisting of 45 construction and drilling vessels. The MoU represents an important milestone for Eni and Saipem, confirming the mutual commitment to diversify energy sources and reduce the carbon footprint in offshore operations.
Eni produces biofuels since 2014, thanks to the conversion of the refineries of Venice And It freezes in biorefineries, which have been palm oil free since the end of 2022. Through the proprietary Ecofining™ technology, vegetable raw materials or animal waste and biofuel products are treated HVO extension (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil). Biofuels are one of the pillars of Eni’s strategic plan for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, through a decarbonisation process that aims to reduce emissions from industrial processes and products.
This agreement, in particular, falls within the ambit of the realization of Saipem’s strategy for the reduction of emissions GHG and implements, together with the other initiatives and investments envisaged in the Group’s strategic plan, the path for the reduction of its scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 2035 and the achievement of the Net Zero objective (including scope 3) at 2050.
The agreement will leverage theexperience and on skills of both partners. Eni Sustainable Mobility, one of the leading biofuel producers in Europe, makes its knowledge available in providing solutions for the reduction of carbon emissions. Saipem, through its commitment to the energy transition, aims to increase the use of alternative fuels on its vessels to reduce its emissions and those of its customers. Thanks to the use of fuels of biogenic origin, Saipem aims to reduce emissions by approximately 550,000 Tonnes of CO2eq per year, equal to approximately 60% of its total annual scope 1 emissions.
