He’s preparing a big production Slashfilm quotes him from the Berlinale as saying that he will be working with Kubrick’s widow Christiane Kubrick and her brother Jan Harlan for HBO. It should be based on Kubrick’s original screenplay.
This is good news for Kubrick fans. After all, the project in Spielberg’s hands at HBO has been in the planning and development for several years seemed to have already wandered into the poison cupboard in the meantime. Mind you, he never acted as a director, but always as a producer.
As pointed out by the BBC, among others, the reputation of Kubrick’s Napoleon project as “greatest movie never made” not entirely unjustified. The director spent decades researching and wanted to bring the film to cinemas at extreme expense. For the battle scenes alone, he planned to borrow 50,000 (!) soldiers from the Romanian army.
When is the Napoleon series coming to Germany?
It is not yet clear when exactly producer Steven Spielberg will be able to release the Napoleon material on HBO. The star director’s schedule is not exactly empty and the series promises to be immensely complex. We don’t go ahead 2025 from a start.
