Finland’s previous world championship was from 2017
In the previous World Championships, 2021 in Oberstdorf, Finland received three medals. Ristomatti Hakola and Joni Mäki took silver in the skiing pair sprint and the women took bronze in the relay team with Jasmi Joensuu, Johanna Matintalo, Riitta-Liisa Roponen and Krista Pärmäkoski. In addition, Ilkka Herola received silver in the combined normal hill race.
In 2019 in Seefeld, Finland got only one medal: Iivo Niskanen’s bronze in the 15 km traditional.
At the home games in Lahti 2017, Finland received five medals, and the previous world championship is also from those games.
Iivo Niskanen won the World Championship gold in the 15 km traditional, Sami Jauhojärvi and Niskanen took bronze in the pair sprint and Matti Heikkinen took third place in the 50 km free.
In the women’s category, Krista Pärmäkoski was second in the skiathlon, and the women also took relay bronze with the team of Aino-Kaisa Saarinen, Kerttu Niskanen, Laura Mononen and Pärmäkoski.
