Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) is dead, but that doesn’t really matter. After all, there is the multiverse, which can create endless alternate versions of characters. So why shouldn’t Tony Stark return in Avengers 6: Secret Wars when so many other MCU contenders are rumored to be? Unfortunately, the fan hope has no basis, as producer Stephen Broussard explains.
Marvel creators on Iron Man return: Robert Downey Jr. is “off the table”
Regarding the future of Marvel, Broussard explained in an interview with the media site io9:
One of the meta stories of phase 4 [des MCU] were the new characters. […] After 10 years of MCU history, the torch has been passed. For example, Robert Downey Jr. is off the table. A new generation has formed.
That sounds like a tough rejection for all those fans who had been looking forward to Downey appearing in the sixth Avengers spectacle. Supposedly several Marvel legends are returning there. Iron Man is apparently not one of them.
When is Avengers 6 in cinemas?
Downey’s story with Iron Man found a great ending on screen with Avengers 4: Endgame. Anyone who still wants to see him again can still cling to short-term changes in plans. After all, until the Avengers 6 theatrical release on April 29, 2026 more than three years left.
