In 2020, a man sought treatment for problems with one of his breasts at a health center in Hälsingland and received the answer that it was probably due to a fungal infection. But the problems persisted despite treatment.

Only when the man started to have other symptoms was it discovered that he had breast cancer with metastases. Region Gävleborg has now submitted a notification according to lex Maria to the Inspectorate for Care and Care (Ivo).

“I regret that there was a delayed diagnosis of the cancer disease. It is unclear whether the prognosis has worsened, but it cannot be ruled out. We have gone through the case in an internal investigation and are now reporting to get Ivo’s independent assessment of the incident,” says Chief Medical Officer Peo Hermansson, in a press release.
