Has the press got it yet? This is the legitimate question that we are entitled to ask ourselves when we take a look at the viewer rating obtained by Ant-Man 3 Quantumania on the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. While the press Metascore dropped to 49% (for 218 reviews), making it one of the lowest rated MCU films (The Eternals is even lower), the opinion of the spectators contrasts radically with that mainstream and pop culture journalists. With 85% average for more than 1,000 registered reviewswe realize the shift (quite classic) between the two entities. “Don’t be fooled by the reviews, this movie was amazing” can we read on Rotten Tomatoes, or even: “The special effects are very good”but also “It’s the best Ant-Man movie and a great start to Phase 5,” without forgetting the classic “NEVER listen to reviews!!! All I’ve seen are negative reviews for this movie, and they’re off the mark!! This is the BEST Ant man movie yet , and the first major Marvel movie of this phase.” Others admit “being glued to their seat during the 2 hour film”while some claim “that the movie is funny, that Kang was super intimidating”, but that the film will only have 4.5/5 “because the movie should have been more serious and focused on closing the trilogy rather than opening up more questions”.

The public is there to defend the interests of Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, who however recently admitted that there had been far too many MCU-related series on Disney + and that he was going to slow down the pace. We would also like that in terms of post-production, Marvel could once again flirt with visual quality, leaving the technicians to have more time to achieve all the visual effects. As for the press/viewer gap, it’s fairly standard, even if some point out that review bombing exists both negatively and positively, the viewer ratings for Asterix & Obelix The Middle Empire are recent proof of this, with 55% of accounts created just after the release of the film, accounts that had never given ratings to a film before that of Guillaume Canet…

In France, on the other hand, viewers are much more happy, since by going to Allociné, we see that the opinion of the general public is rated 2.7/5, or roughly the same score obtained via the press which displays an average of 2.4/10. The French admit non-existent stakes, poor digital effects and above all a MODOK which makes the film look ridiculous. On the other hand, everyone agrees that Jonathan Majors is convincing in Kang, but that the new antagonist is disappointing in his treatment.
