In France, this Friday February 17 is the last day of debates on pension reform in the Assembly. The text will then go to the Senate where it will be examined in early March. Thursday, the examination of the bill has stalled, and there are still thousands of amendments to consider. Unless there is a huge surprise, the deputies will not have time to tackle the heart of the matter: the postponement of the legal retirement age. Will these fifteen days of debate have been for nothing?
In an ever more tense climate, the chairperson of the session lists one by one the hundreds of amendments from the Insoumis. MP LR Pierre-Henri Dumont makes up his mind, even if rebellious France withdraws all its amendments, the postponement of the legal age will not be debated.
” It’s a bit like the myth of Sisyphus, he confides in the microphone of Pierrick Bonno political service. We pushed our rock to the top of the mountain and we realize that we haven’t reached the top of the mountain and that the rock is gradually descending. »
An incomplete examination to put on the back of the government, according to the Insoumis Paul Vannier: “ The responsibility for this lack of time lies with the government. He chose – by article 47-1 – to limit the time of the debate to twelve days. »

But according to Mathieu Lefèvre, it was indeed the Insoumis, by their obstruction, who delayed the debates. The deputy Renaissance will retain the deleterious climate of these discussions. “ There is a record of excesses, obstruction and invective. And from this point of view, the debate does not grow out of it “, he says.
Towards a motion of censure?
For fifteen days, the National Rally tried to place itself above the fray. And the deputy RN Kévin Mauvieux welcomes it: “ We pass for serious and it’s good for us in a way. But afterwards, I want to say that there is no strategy behind it, our only strategy was to say: we calm down on the amendments in order to be able to vote on the text and reject it. And we will not be able to reject the text in the end, because indeed, as much as we are serious on our side, both the government and the Nupes did not want us to vote on the text. »
To provoke a vote no matter what, the National Rally tabled a motion of censure against the government. It could be examined as early as this Friday evening.
