Since 2018, the Police Agency has received increased resources with the aim of being able to increase the number of employees by 10,000 people up to and including the year 2024. The previous government commissioned the Crime Prevention Council (Brå) to make a partial report and that report was released early this morning.
The partial report must also map the use of resources within the Police Authority and show how the capacity of actually available resources has developed. And these are not positive numbers, says Mona Backhans, project manager at the Crime Prevention Council.
– The goal was set too high. It was simply not reasonable to assume that you would fill one hundred percent of the places for the police training because you did not do it before this investment when the places were around 300-350 people per semester and now have over a thousand places.
Vulnerable areas have been prioritized in accordance with the government’s directive, according to the report. But the local level has not been provided with resources to the extent that was intended. And activities at the central level have increased more than the local police areas.
-Stockholm has not had any police growth at all since 2015, since then there is little difference between different regions in how large the increase has been. But what we have been able to see is that of the roughly 2,000 new police officers who have benefited from the operation during this period, only about a thousand are on external duty in the local police areas.
