A new townhouse development is being proposed for Simcoe.
Plans call for an 18-unit stacked townhouse development to be built at 600 Norfolk St. N. If approved, the townhouses would be 2.5 storeys and the development would have 24 residential and five visitor parking spots.
The development is being proposed by 600 Norfolk St. N. and was presented to Norfolk County councilors by Mary Elder, of Elder Plans Inc. at a recent public hearing committee meeting.
For the proposal to move forward, the county will have to approve an official plan amendment to change the property to urban residential from commercial.
The site is surrounded by residential and industrial to the east, residential to the south and commercial to the west.
Elder told councilors that six of the units will be one-bedroom and the rest will be two-bedroom.
Councilors also heard from Bryan Brown, a life-long East Street resident, who urged them to turn down the proposal.
“This proposal is too much for that corner,” the resident councilors told.
The resident told councilors that parking on East Street is non-existent and he also raised concerns about snow removal.
Councilors voted to accept the proposal as information. It will be further reviewed by planning staff who will bring a recommendation for council’s consideration at a future meeting.
