The Ministry of Education and Culture distributes sports grants for summer sports for 1,476,000 euros. 21 athletes received the largest possible grant.

Many of Finland’s athletics stars were left without an athlete grant awarded by the Ministry of Education and Culture when the list of summer sports was published on Wednesday. The ministry published its list based on the proposals of the Finnish Olympic Committee.
For example, the Finnish record holder in the 100-meter hurdles Annimari Korte and 100 meter Finnish record holder Samuli Samuelsson were left without a grant.
The same fate happened to the 200 meter Finnish record runner last year Samuel Purola. A former SE woman who suffered from injuries like Kortte Nooralotta Neziri was also left without assistance.
However, 13 track and field athletes received the largest possible grant, i.e. 20,000 euros. For example, the EC medalists in Munich Top Raitanen, Wilma Murto, Kristiina Mäkelä and Lassi Etelätalo received 20,000 euros each.
A 400 meter rower and SE woman who ran in the EC final Viivi Lehikoinen received half of the maximum amount, i.e. 10,000 euros.
Also, for example, a shooter Eetu Kallioinena wrestler Arvi Savolainensailors Central axis and Sinem Kurtbaya swimmer Matti Mattsson and a gymnast Emil Soravuo received the largest possible grant.
21 athletes received a grant of 20,000 euros, but in total the grant was distributed to 157 athletes for 1,476,000 euros.
The Ministry of Education and Culture states in its announcement that the grant will not be awarded to athletes whose taxable income exceeded 80,000 euros in 2021.
– The very successful sports year 2022 will again bring a well-deserved and necessary state grant to many top athletes and the promise of the future. In order for the grant to continue to be targeted to those who need it the most, starting this year the ministry will take into account the available income of the grant applicant more broadly than before, the Minister of Science and Culture Petri Honkonen commented in the announcement.
