The Swedes in general are also even worse at sorting waste than the northerners. On average, only 37 percent of the waste ends up in the garbage bags of Swedish residential households correctly, and the corresponding figure for apartment households is only 35 percent, according to statistics from the branch organization Avfall Sweden from 2021.
– For us to be able to do the right thing, knowledge is needed. Households need knowledge and we need to know what it is that households are doing wrong. When we see it, we can identify what efforts we need to make to make it more correct in the garbage bag, says Maria Nyström, unit manager for waste and customer service in Boden municipality.
