+ That’s how it happens

The riders start 30 seconds apart and then it’s all about being spot-free in the shooting and fast in the track. The distance consists of four shots. They shoot in the order lying, standing, lying, standing. Each boom gives a time addition of one minute.

+ Latest WC and Olympics

2022: Beijing Olympics: 1) Denise Herrmann-Wick, Germany, 2) Anaïs Chevalier-Bouchet, France, 3) Marte Olsbu Røiseland, Norway. Swedish rankings: 12) Mona Brorsson, 13) Hanna Öberg, 15) Linn Persson, 16) Elvira Öberg.

2021: WC in Pokljuka: 1) Markéta Davidová, Czech Republic, 2) Hanna Öberg, Sweden, 3) Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold, Norway. Other Swedish positions: 21) Linn Persson, 35) Elvira Öberg, 49) Johanna Skottheim.

+ Will Hanna Öberg win a medal again?

Distance races in championships have been something of a specialty for Hanna Öberg. She won the distance races in the 2018 Olympics and the 2019 WC. Then came fourth in the 2020 WC and took silver in the WC the following year. In addition, she won the season’s first distance race in the World Cup premiere in Kontiolax. Now she comes to Wednesday’s 15-kilometer race strengthened by the silver in the sprint in Oberhof.

+ Cold favourites

Elvira Öberg has a sore throat and most likely cannot start in the distance race. She came to the WC as Sweden’s biggest medal hope after the winter’s three victories and a second place overall in the World Cup. Lisa Vittozzi, Italy, also caught a cold before the start of the chase and it is doubtful whether she can compete in the distance race. A healthy Vittozzi had been one of the favorites as she came third over the distance in Kontiolax and then won the second distance race of the season in Ruhpolding.

+ The favorite rests

Norwegian star Marte Olsbu Røiseland was affected by shingles this summer and did not make a competitive comeback until shortly before the WC – she only managed five individual races before Oberhof. After gold in the mixed relay, a fourth place in the sprint and a third place in the pursuit start, the Norwegian now chooses to stand over the distance race. Instead, Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold gets to wear a Norwegian favourite. She has a second place from the distance in Kontiolax at the beginning of the season. World Cup leader Julia Simon, France, should not be forgotten. She has a third place from the distance race in Ruhpolding and drove herself to victory in the pursuit start after just one miss on Sunday.
