Audience members under hypnosis to join Colin Mochrie in Chatham

Improv comedy and hypnotism will collide at the Chatham Capitol Theater on Feb. 18.

Colin Mochrie, star of the popular Whose Line Is It Anyway TV series, and Asad Mecci, a master hypnotist, are bringing back their show, Hyprov: Improv Under Hypnosis. The duo previously visited Chatham in early 2020.

The 90-minute show sees Mecci bringing 20 audience members upstage. The most receptive to his hypnosis then join Mochrie to improvise the rest of the show.

“I’m still shocked that Asad is able to hypnotize people night after night,” Mochrie said in a news release. “I still get nervous wondering what is going to happen, but each night I’m blown away. I have to keep myself from laughing.”

Mecci and Mochrie created Hyprov in 2016 at Toronto’s Second City. They took it to Just For Laughs London, Just For Laughs Montreal, Edinburgh Fringe and recently completed an off-Broadway run.

They’ve toured it through 60 cities from 2019 to 2022 and will continue through 2023 and 2024.
