This year will see the long-awaited TV series about Börje Salming.
Now the very first clip of a young Börje has leaked from Viaplay.
“Here comes a little surprise!”, writes the television channel in a statement.
He was one of Swedish hockey’s biggest icons of all time and touched so many people during his lifetime. But on November 24, 2022, the hockey legend passed away Börje Salming away in the sequels of the nerve disease ALS.
Tribute to Börje
Since then, the loss has been great in hockey Sweden and recently Salming received an incredibly nice tribute from the old club Brynäs IF. When his jersey was hoisted to the ceiling and immortalized in the Monitor ERP Arena during a very emotional ceremony in Gävle.

Later in the year, the next big Börje Salming tribute will come in the form of the TV series about his life. Viaplay has been planning this popular TV series for a long time, and on Valentine’s Day itself, the TV channel leaked the very first clip from the recording, see the video below.

A young Salming
There we get a taste of a young Börje, played by the actor Walter Skarsgård.
“Here comes a little surprise! When Viaplay Group released financial statements for 2022, our CEO Anders Jensen and Chief Content Officer Filippa Wallestam took the opportunity to open the door to our upcoming drama productions in 2023, including early sneak peeks at Ronja and the series about Börje Salming. The clips are so-called work in progress and very early in production, so they lack post-processing and special effects,” writes the TV channel to the video on YouTube.

The TV series will be about Salming’s younger years and the journey from Kiruna to North America, including the actors Hedda Stiernstedt and Jason Priestley will have major roles. The series about Börje Salming will have its world premiere in 2023 on Viaplay.

Viaplay also acknowledges that Salming’s tragic passing has resulted in everyone involved in the television project working even harder to portray the hockey legend and his life in a dignified and fair way. See the first pictures of a young Börje Salming below.
