The already strained relationship between the United States and China looks set to deteriorate further after the White House denied Beijing’s accusations that American balloons were sent into Chinese airspace.
“All claims that the US sent spy balloons over China are false,” tweeted Adrienne Watson, spokeswoman for the US Security Council, on Monday.

“It is China that uses spy balloons and has violated the privacy of the United States and over 40 countries,” Watson added in the post.
The statement comes after China claimed that US balloons had repeatedly entered Chinese airspace since January 2022.
