On Monday, the trial against four men who are accused of particularly serious drug offenses began in the Gothenburg District Court. The men are suspected of having smuggled in close to 400 kilos of cocaine in May 2020.

The four men have denied any crime, but during the first day of the trial, a man in his 50s suddenly admitted his involvement, reports P4 Gothenburg.

– He realized that he was over-convinced, says prosecutor Mats Dahlberg to the radio channel.

The evidence consists largely of material from encrypted messaging services.

It was in May 2020 that the men are suspected of meeting a Brazilian freighter in the middle of the night. The crew of the ship dumped cocaine into the sea which was then to be picked up by the accused men. But parts of the cocaine were lost. It was later found in various places along the coast and handed in to the police.
