UniCredit supports Ghellas sustainable development plans

(Finance) – UniCredit supports the development plans of Ghella, a historic Roman company of primary importance both in Italy and abroad in the construction world. The bank has finalized a financial support intervention, based on sustainable development, from 30 million euros. It is a Sustainability-Linked Loan in support of the investment plan envisaged for 2022 and linked to the achievement of a specific ESG improvement target set upon stipulation of the loan. The operation – Unicredit says in a note – is bound to a quantified reduction of CO2 emissions that Ghella is committed to obtain by 2025, at the time of publication of the corporate sustainability report.

Ghella, founded in 1894, specializes in underground excavations, is active in the construction of infrastructural works such as subways, railways, motorways and hydraulic works.

“Sustainability has always been the key word of our corporate mission – he declares Marco Tummarello, CFO of Ghella -. In recent years it has gone beyond the concept of simple civil liability to become a fundamental factor for those who do business. Sustainability today also offers a financial advantage for healthier companies, able to plan to reduce their environmental impact. UniCredit has always been our reference partner for increasingly ambitious initiatives and projects “.

“Sustainability is increasingly becoming a determining factor in the development paths of companies – he declares Roberto Fiorini, head of UniCredit Central Italy – and our Group has made it a key element of the new strategic plan. With this operation we not only confirm our commitment to support the growth plans of local companies but we do it with a finance solution on the basis of which the company undertakes to reach a specific ESG target. Supporting the transition to a sustainable economy is part of our way of banking with the aim of providing communities with the levers to progress and contribute to building a more equitable and inclusive society for all “.
