Charges laid after domestic argument

Early Sunday morning, Chatham-Kent police responded to a report of a domestic dispute between a man and woman in the parking lot of a business on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, police said they had grounds to arrest the man for assault. However, during the arrest, the woman allegedly began assaulting officers in an attempt to pull the man away and prevent him from being taken into custody.

Police then placed her under arrest as well, charging her with assaulting and obstructing a peace officer.

Both the man and woman were transported to police headquarters where they were processed and later released on an undertaking with conditions.

Mischief and uttering threats

Police responded to an unwanted person complaint on Edwy Street in Wallaceburg on Saturday morning.

The occupants of the residence reported that their adult son was in attendance and were wishing him to be removed, police added.

While in the presence of police, the son allegedly kicked over a stationary e-bike belonging to the complainant, resulting in damage to the frame.

The man was subsequently arrested by police for mischief under $5,000. Further investigation revealed the man had also allegedly threatened his mother earlier in the day.

The 36-year-old Wallaceburg man was taken to police headquarters where he was later released with a court date.

Traffic stop leads to charges

Early Sunday, police conducted a traffic stop in the area of ​​King Street West in Chatham.

Police learned that the driver was bound by conditions under both the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act to not operate a motor vehicle.

He was arrested and charged with operation while prohibited, under the Criminal Code, and three counts of driving under suspension, a Highway Traffic Act offence.

The vehicle he was operating was impounded for 90 days. The 22-year-old Florence man was released with a short date.
