Voluntary defense organizations are non-profit associations that the government has decided are particularly important for the work with crisis preparedness and total defence. The operations are based on the needs of authorities, municipalities and regions in the event of crises or war.
There are 18 voluntary defense organizations (FFO) in Sweden:
The National Association of Voluntary Automobile Workers (FAK)
Tasked with training drivers to ensure heavy traffic in crisis situations. Also conducts training in, among other things, track carts and snowmobiles.
Volunteer Air Force (FFK)
Offers people interested in flying to develop their flying skills to perform tasks for both the Armed Forces and civil authorities.
National Confederation of Voluntary Motorcycle Corps (FMCK)
Has as its main task is to train and deploy motorcycle ordinances for the total defense, but also to assist the community in the event of unexpected stresses.
Voluntary Radio Organization (FRO)
Recruits and trains liaison operators for both the Armed Forces and society’s crisis preparedness.
National Association of Air Force Volunteers (FVRF)
Trains reconnaissance soldiers for the home defense intelligence companies and volunteer personnel for the Air Force’s war air bases. Has the task of basic training for all instructors from the voluntary defense organizations.
The Defense Personnel Service Association (FPF)
Tasked with recruiting and training for the Home Guard and the Armed Forces in positions such as personnel officer and personnel care officer.
National Association of Service Engineers (IIR)
Organizes engineers who are active in all areas of the construction industry.
National Confederation of the Swedish Navy (SVK RF)
Basic training of personnel for naval service, military and civil. The Swedish Navy’s ships and crews strengthen society during crises and incidents, for example with surveillance and transport.
Swedish Blue Star (SBS)
Trains farm animals in, among other things, animal husbandry, handling, infection control and vaccination.
Swedish Working Dog Club (SBK)
Trains members and their dogs to be rescue dogs, sea rescue dogs and patrol dogs on behalf of both civil authorities and the Armed Forces.
Swedish Parachute Association (SFF)
SFF supports the Armed Forces when necessary with training of parachute instructors, maintenance of competence and further training in freefalling.
Swedish Defense Training Association (Defence Trainers)
Recruits and trains, among other things, in crisis preparedness, healthcare, cooperation and management, field kitchen, CBRN, forest fire fighting, security guards and other special areas for authorities and the Armed Forces for missions in peace, crisis and war.
The Swedish Lottery Association (SLK)
Engages women who want to contribute to a safer and more secure society in everyday life, crisis and war. Trains in leadership and staff assistants for civil authorities as well as staff assistants, intelligence assistants and field cooks for the Armed Forces.
Swedish Pistol Shooting Federation (SPSF)
Trains pistol shooting instructors as well as personnel for ammunition and propellant groups for the needs of the Armed Forces.
Swedish Red Cross (SRK)
Red Cross volunteers are prepared to act in local crises or major events. Provides crisis support on behalf of society and coordinates spontaneous volunteers. The Red Cross trains first aiders, crisis support workers, operation leaders, volunteer coordinators and international law communicators.
Swedish Shooting Sports Federation (SvSF)
Trains AK4 instructors for the Home Guard and the Armed Forces.
The National Association of Swedish Motorists (Automotive Association)
Trains vehicle drivers and logisticians, management staff and power plant operators. The Swedish Automobile Corps has assignments for both civil authorities and the Armed Forces.
Swedish Civil Defense Federation (SCF)
Educates about threats and risks in society. Also trains and quality-assures members from all voluntary defense organizations that are part of the municipalities’ Voluntary Resource Group, FRG.
