Speaking to the German press, NATO Spokesperson Oana Lungescu stated that the news that the Secretary General’s mandate was extended once again did not reflect the truth.
The mandate of the Secretary General was extended in March 2022 until September 30, 2023. Stoltenberg, whose mandate has been extended three times so far, will resign as of October 2023.
Stoltenberg, who previously served as Norwegian Prime Minister for more than 8 years and Norwegian Finance Minister for 4 years, and also the leader of the Labor Party, applied to head the Central Bank of his country after his term in NATO ended. (AA)
