Many babies were orphaned after the earthquake. The Ministry of Family and Social Services announced that a call center was established for children whose families and relatives could not be reached in disaster areas. Citizens who want to protect babies whose families cannot be reached have started to implement the necessary procedures. Infants and orphans who came to Adana City Hospital were treated with special care and protection. Nurses and physicians are fighting for earthquake victims to regain their health.
EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS WITH UNKNOWN IDENTITY ARE FOLLOWED WITH SPECIAL INTEREST
Thousands of people lost their lives in the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake in 10 provinces, and 10 thousand people were injured. The state is struggling with all means in order to heal the wounds of the earthquake that deeply injured Turkey. In Adana, which was affected by the earthquake, both field work is carried out and the injured from the surrounding provinces were treated in many hospitals, especially the City Hospital. Especially babies and earthquake victims whose identities are unknown are followed and protected with special care. 16-year-old Yusuf, who lost his brothers in the earthquake and was rescued from the rubble, thanked the doctors who were his family in the hospital room and said, “I am fine.”
FINGERPRINTS OF UNIDENTIFIED BABIES AND CHILDREN ARE TAKEN
Stating that the fingerprints of babies and children who come without an ID are taken and they are healed with high security in the services, Provincial Health Director Uz. Dr. Halil Nacar noted that a special unit was established for citizens who could not find their relatives, and identification analyzes were carried out. Stating that the security is kept at a high level in all health units and all the records of each individual who comes to the hospital are taken, Nacar said, “First of all, we convey our wishes to everyone in these days when we are experiencing the disaster of the century. Once a citizen, or more broadly, any human being, enters our hospitals, they are entrusted to us. This is a sentence that we have formed both spiritually and officially, they are under our responsibility. All of our systems are designed to protect these patients, these possessed, unattended, and non-self-possessed patients. Here, our employees are progressing in confidence, not only as the Ministry of Health or the health organization, but also in cooperation with the Ministry of Family and Social Policies and the Police Department.”
ANALYSIS DATA IS CREATED
Mentioning that they protect the patients with the systems they have established, Nacar said, “Even if our babies come here alone, after they come, each baby is definitely registered and entered by a health professional and a team assigned by the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Policies. Here, no baby, no child or a patient who is unconscious and unable to express himself is not alone. Here, we are all working with extraordinary effort to ensure that they regain their health as soon as possible. We also make an effort to ensure their safety and reunite them with their loved ones and families as soon as possible. Here, we have a special study for people who cannot get an unidentified identity card. We both photograph and create fingerprints and many analysis data pools. We do fingerprint studies with our works. After that, when we are going to discharge these people after their recovery, we only deliver them to state institutions, children to love houses and accompanied by supervisors, in connection with the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Policies. Therefore, none of our patients who come to our hospital are open to such a risk.
“SPECIAL UNIT FOR WHO ARE LOOKING FOR THEIR RELATIVES”
Pointing out that they have established a special unit for people who are looking for their loved ones and cannot find them, Nacar said, “Therefore, of course, I can understand very well that people search for their loved ones and want to find them. We are working for them, meanwhile, we have established our own call center within our Adana Provincial Health Directorate so that these citizens can receive information. Our call center works 24 hours. We are constantly collecting dynamic information from the field. We have friends in the field right now. In emergency rooms, intensive care units and services. They’re doing identification. We perform a patient-specific identification analysis for each patient. We record age, gender, characteristics, if speaking, and many similar data.”
