Over 22,600 people have now been confirmed dead after the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Even though more than 100 hours have passed since the disaster, people are still being rescued from the mobs.
In the town of Nurdagi in Turkey, the Spanish military’s rescue unit was met with applause today when, after a 24-hour battle, they were able to pull out a pair of siblings and their mother, who for four days fought for their lives during the riots.
At the same time, aid organizations warn that the stocks of supplies for those who survived will soon run out, especially in the northern parts of Syria where the population is already suffering greatly after years of war.
– 90 percent of the population there is dependent on aid. Stockpiles of supplies are starting to run out, says Corinne Fleischer, regional director of the UN food program WFP.
