Studio behind Destiny demands millions in fines for cheat providers

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Bungie, the developers behind Destiny 1 and 2 are waging a fierce battle against many cheat providers and cheaters who dare to cheat in their games. The current case of VeteranCheats shows how tough Bungie is here. This provider will now in court sued for damages.

What is the charge? Bungie has sued the company behind VeteranCheats for a total of $12 million. The costs consisted of copyright infringement, circumvention claims and legal fees:

  • $146,662.28 for copyright infringement,
  • $11,696,000 for circumvention claims (cheats sold)
  • $217,250.70 in legal fees.
  • The circumvention claim can be derived from the cheats sold. The company has sold a total of 5,848 of these cheats for Destiny 2 and Bungie is asking for a total of 2,000 US dollars per hack, which corresponds to almost 1,900 euros.

A harsh penalty that Bungie is demanding of the vendor, but it will be some time before this can be enforced or taken to court.

Is this Bungie’s first lawsuit against cheat vendors? No, Bungie also has a case against the cheat provider “Aim Junkies” going on. However, this operator defends itself with all its might and even with a counterclaim ensures that Bungie itself has to answer for allegations of hacking.

The developers had presented evidence in court that could only have been obtained by “stealing” it from players.

While the final outcome of the process is not yet known, one thing is clear: the fight for justice is a difficult undertaking. Only time will tell if Bungie can hold the providers accountable and thus bring more peace from cheaters to the loot shooter.

Bungie wants to make Destiny 2 safe: Such procedures are not only costly but also nerve wracking. However, Bungie wants to hold these evildoers accountable in order to make Destiny 2 a place where every player has an equal opportunity.

A game infested with cheaters is not only bad for business, it’s also no fun. While custodians have to fight hard for their skill, these cheaters snag kills and win only by digging deep into their own wallets.

Bungie wants to stop that and make Destiny 2 a largely cheater-free place. In order to achieve this, these tough measures are necessary.
