The president of the United States says it has shot down a target the size of a small car that flew over Alaska Joe Biden by order, says the White House.
According to the White House, a US fighter jet shot down the target. The object fell in northeastern Alaska near the Canadian border. The object flew at an altitude of about 12 kilometers and could have caused harm to passenger planes.
The exact details of the object that was shot down are not yet known, says the spokesperson of the White House John Kirby.
According to Kirby, it is still unclear where the object came from.
– We don’t know who owns this object, Kirby said.
The object was significantly smaller than the suspected Chinese spy ball that hovered over the United States last week. Before shooting down, it was ensured that the target is unmanned.
The Pentagon is expected to provide more information on the matter later Friday local time.
According to Kirby, the United States expects to recover the object after it lands in US territorial waters.
A suspected Chinese spy balloon flew over the United States for several days last week. It was shot down on the US East Coast last Saturday.
China commented that it was a weather observation balloon that lost its route with the air currents and did not obey the guidance.
In the United States, it was estimated that the balloon would possibly monitor ballistic missile silos located in Montana.
