A year ago, Microsoft’s Monarch project leaked on the Web. Also known as One Outlook, it aims to unify the Outlook email client to provide a universal experience regardless of platform. This new version, modeled on webmail, is thus supposed to replace all existing Outlook desktop applications, and push Mail, the native Windows mail client, towards forced retirement.
After several months of internal testing at Microsoft, One Outlook is about to be officially unveiled. According to Mary Jo Foley, always well informed when it comes to Microsoft, the Redmond firm could unveil the arrival of its new email client by Spring, with a Preview potentially offered to Insiders, in the Dev channels. and Beta, by the end of March or the beginning of April 2022. The new version of the mail client would arrive in the Preview Channel at the beginning of August and could be released in a stable version by next fall.
One Outlook, which is intended to replace all existing versions of Outlook, the Mail messaging client, but also the Calendar application, could be deployed with the next Windows 10 and Windows 11 updates next October. The application will however be offered as an option initially, Microsoft choosing to keep, at least temporarily, Mail and Calendar.
