Mari Eder fired five misses at the Oberhof World Championships in the women’s sprint. Finland’s number one name started the race from the first starting number.
He was left out of the top 60 pursuit race and a weak performance can have severe consequences for the whole World Cup career. Eder was 69th in the final results. He was 3 minutes and 8.1 seconds behind the leader.
– Overall, it was a really strong failure. It’s sad now. This affects the entire Games. Now the chase is over. Almost even the joint start passes, Eder described in an interview with Urheilu.
The top 15 of the World Cup before the World Cup automatically got into the joint start. Eder barely missed this quota. Eder was 17th overall in the World Cup. A total of 30 competitors are participating in the joint start. The remaining 15 places are allocated to World Cup medalists from outside the top 15 and to those who did best at the World Cup.
– I was one of the first to drop out of the joint start. Now that the failure came, the race also seems bad, Eder stated.
If Eder does not make it to the joint start, he will have only one individual race left, i.e. a normal trip.
Eder fired two bombs from the prone position and three from the upright position at high speed.
– When lying down, the shots missed from the right. The wind was in that direction. I reacted to it. There were three good shots and two a little loose, Eder said.
Eder didn’t think the vertical position was as bad as the result.
– They passed the border from below. Maybe the position dropped a bit. The performance didn’t feel so bad, but the result is on the board, Eder said.
Already at the opening of the World Championships in the medley relay, Eder had problems with shooting when he could not get a spare cartridge into the barrel in a vertical position. He fidgeted with the lock several times to finally get the cartridge in place
Skiing had seemed better to the 35-year-old conkar than the mixed relay.
– Physically it was a better day. The first and second round felt good. In the last round, the penalty rounds seemed forced. However, there was an extra 750 meters, Eder stated.
Denise Hermann-Wick won the World Championship gold in front of his home crowd. The German shot cleanly and beat Sweden Hanna Öberg’s In 2.2 seconds.
– It was incredible to compete for my home country in my home country. Today was a wonderful day. I couldn’t have imagined such a perfect day, said the German winner who started his biathlon career in Oberhofis.
Suvi Minkkinen was the best Finn in 35th place, Nastassia Kinnunen was 61. Venla Lehtonen stopped the race. Suvi Minkkinen is the only Finnish woman in Sunday’s pursuit.
– I like the chase and it is my favorite of personal trips. Of course, then let’s go up big here five times. There you can fight mentally and physically. It’s good that I was now able to pull at the basic level and I can get into the pursuit for the first time in the World Championships, Minkkinen stated.
