When smoke divers entered the completely smoke-filled apartment, they did not know if anyone was there.
– We are in there to search for the source of the fire and see if there is possibly anyone in the home, says Roger Westerberg.
The smoke divers found one person who they took out, a man whose life could not be saved.
Missed severely injured woman
But then it took just over an hour before the emergency services found the woman, who is now being cared for with life-threatening injuries in the intensive care unit in Uppsala. VK was the first to tell.
According to VK, the emergency services managed to clear the scene and then leave. 15 minutes later, the Police’s regional command center receives reports that a badly injured woman has been found in the apartment.
– I don’t want to comment on this, there will only be speculation about what has happened and I don’t want that, says Westerberg.
The rescue personnel are offered crisis support
The incident is now to be investigated by rescue services in another location, where they hope to get an answer as to why it took so long before the woman was found.
– It takes an unusually long time and it is unfortunate. We want it to go as quickly as possible, says Westerberg.
The rescue personnel who worked on the fire have received crisis support.
– It is difficult for them. We have had crisis support and relief talks and that will continue in the future, says Westerberg.
