Soon the prices at Systembolaget will be raised again. But the increase is not at all on par with inflation in general.
– We dare not raise, says brewer Dan-Magnus Svensson to TT.
According to tradition, Systembolaget adjusts its prices twice a year, March 1 and September 1. In March, the average increase will be 2.6 percent, according to Systembolaget, so significantly less than inflation in general, which was just over 12 percent at the beginning of the year.
Systembolaget’s price increase depends entirely on how much their suppliers raise their prices. Why they didn’t raise their prices more is hard to know, says Systembolaget’s CEO Ann Carlsson Meyer.
– It could be a lagging effect, but as I see it, the suppliers have done everything they could to keep the prices down.
Reduced sales
On Friday, Systembolaget presented its year-end figures for last year. They showed that sales volumes decreased by 3.2 percent, to 558.4 million liters. Operating profit decreased by 21 percent, from SEK 442 to SEK 340 million. Reorganization excluded, however, there is no major loss of profit compared to before, says Ann Carlsson Meyer.
We are pretty much in line with how it was before the pandemic. But we see that customers are buying a little less and at a little lower cost.
The reason is believed to be the economic situation that we are seeing now, which makes customers hold tighter in their wallets.
– People feel that they have less money to consume simply because, she says.
