In Nyheterna’s series on screen use among children, we went to Gotland, where the Orion school received criticism from the school inspectorate after they removed screens from teaching in the primary school.
After being forced to change their curriculum and add more screen work, the school was approved, but they still continue to avoid the tiles.
– We think it is more important that they learn to write by hand at a young age and that the digital ones can come in later, says Kalle Edeús, principal at Orion School.
At Orionskolan, which is a Waldorf school, handwriting is a central part of the teaching, because research has shown, among other things, that it is positive for the memory, and that digitization should start already in first grade, according to the Swedish National Agency for Education’s curriculum, something they strongly question here.
