The museums are losing visitors

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

In January, visits decreased by between 10 and 67 percent at the state museums that introduced entrance fees, compared to an average of the previous four months.

Visits to the World Culture Museum in Gothenburg decreased the most. The smallest decrease was noted at the Maritime History Museum in Stockholm. However, entrance fees were only introduced there on 24 January.

Gunnar Ardelius, secretary general of the trade organization Sweden’s museums, tells DN that January is generally a bad month for museums, but that the drop can still be linked to the reintroduction of entrance fees.
