Election win
Almost eight years have now passed since the Eemland Library and De Speeldoos theater decided to work together and the council decisions have long since been taken. Yet their common future is now back on the table. The election victory of local parties VoorBaarn and GroenLinks, both warm supporters of the culture house at De Brink, was interpreted last year as a signal to take a closer look at the expansion of the theater.
The construction project on Rembrandtlaan now appears to be two million euros more expensive, mainly due to increased construction costs. That is why the college is now asking for permission to increase the credit. The council members will decide on it in two weeks and held a debate last night.
For Baarn alderman Mark Veldhuizen chose to present the proposal neutrally to the council. Last night, to the frustration of coalition parties PvdA and D66, among others, he did not allow himself to be tempted to tell the councilors what the council believes are real costs if De Speeldoos and the library remain in their outdated buildings. “I’m waiting for the cadres that the council gives me,” he said simply.
