The Stockholm police deny permission for another Koran burning outside the Turkish embassy. The decision has been taken after the police had a dialogue with the Security Police. The police make the assessment that public order and security cannot be guaranteed if the demonstration were to be carried out – and also refer to the fact that the risk of terrorist attacks in Sweden has increased. The decision has sparked reactions from legal experts. Sweden should not have a political police that decides what to demonstrate for, says Nils Funcke, expert on freedom of expression. – The fundamental right to demonstrate and the right to criticize religions must not be ignored, with reference to the fact that some choleric gentleman down in Turkey thinks this is inappropriate, or that there are terrorists somewhere in Africa who disapprove of this, says Funcke. – We cannot compromise our freedoms and rights, he continues.
