The death toll continues to rise after the devastating earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria. But the hope of finding survivors still exists. In Syria, a newborn baby was miraculously saved from a collapsed house.
In Jindayris in northern Syria, the rescue workers heard a faint voice. They dug faster and faster and finally they saw where the voice was coming from.
A little girl, newborn and still tied by the umbilical cord to her mother.
– We cleared the dust and found the baby with the umbilical cord intact so we cut it and my cousin took her to hospital, rescue worker Khalil al-Suwadi, cousin of the girl’s father, told the AFP news agency.
In the freezing temperatures of northern Syria, the infant was wrapped in blankets and appears to be fine. But still in her hometown, her entire family, father Abdullah, mother Afraa, four siblings and an aunt are lying on the floor of a relative’s house, awaiting burial.
