It will be Wassberg’s very first participation in “Birken”, which is part of the long-distance competitions in Ski Classics. He actually received the starting number for the Norwegian race as a Christmas present from his wife.
“Oh yes, Birken. Then I can go, Wassberg is said to have said according to his wife,” writes the Norwegian ski site langrenn.com.

“Did not see it”

The organizer is of course both surprised and overjoyed that Wassberg is taking part in the race over 54 kilometers from Rena to Lillehammer.
– Very nice, we didn’t see this coming. We are of course very happy. Thomas Wassberg is one of the really great ones, says Randi Bolstadmarketing and communications manager at Birken to the Norwegian Östlendingen.

The Norwegian race Birkebeinerrennet starts on March 18 this year and it will be extremely exciting to see what 66-year-old Thomas Wassberg can accomplish then. If the old beats are still in the old Olympic champion.
