Ebba Årsjö has been a great success and won 8 golds last year.
Nevertheless, she was completely snubbed during the Sports Gala – just like Armand Duplantis.
– It was actually a bit strange, she now admits in an interview with Sportbibeln.
Last year has been absolutely fantastic for 22-year-olds Ebba Årsjö. The Swede has been a complete success in the alpine para sport and has won a total of 8 gold medals in the space of just over 12 months.
Ebba’s big hit
Årsjö, who was born with Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome, had her big international breakthrough last year with first double gold in the para WC and then double gold in the Paralympics. She then followed up last year’s smash hit by winning a total of 4 WC gold medals at this year’s Para WC recently.

After her impressive efforts on the slopes, she was also well-deservedly nominated for the “Performance of the Year” award at the Sports Gala a few weeks ago. And just being there was enough to make Ebba overjoyed.
– It was really fun! I was there with the whole family and so, we really celebrated because it felt like you had won just by being nominated. And then you got to meet so many athletes there, so it was just fun, says the 22-year-old in an interview with Sportbibeln.

Support for Mondo
But despite her fantastic year in 2022, there was still no prize at the Sports Gala. Now she opens up about her feelings after being overlooked, but she doesn’t feel any disappointment at all.
– Well, not at all, not one bit. I didn’t expect to win any prize either when you went up against those big guys who won so much. I was just happy to be there and to be nominated. I may come back again in a few years when there aren’t as many big ones nominated, Ebba admits in the interview.

Another who was not awarded a prize at the Sports Gala despite an unparalleled 2022 was the pole vault star Armand Duplantis. He had to see himself being snuffed out for every prize by the skating phenomenon Nils van der Poel and Årsjö really suffers with “Mondo”.
– It was a bit strange actually. He should have received some award considering how much he won and the awards he received. After all, he was named the world’s second best athlete after Messi, it’s really big. So yeah, it was a little weird. But Nils had also had an incredible year, says Ebba, who also had the chance to meet Mondo.
– He was very nice and nice, so wonderfully relaxed. He is about the same age as me and it felt like usual just to stand and talk.
