SPR is waiting for more detailed information about the need for help

The Finnish branch of the Red Cross is waiting for more detailed information about the need for help in the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Turkey has sent a request for help abroad, but according to SPR’s head of disaster relief Marko Korhonen, has not yet specified what kind of help is needed on the spot. Korhonen is certain that Turkey will clarify the request during Monday.

In addition to money, the need may concern specialists and separate assistance units providing health care. If necessary, SPR can send help through the center in Tampere.

According to Korhonen, the earthquake is so large that help is needed at least in Turkey. On the other hand, it is currently difficult to get information about the destruction in Syria.

– It is difficult to get information about Syria through Turkey, says Korhonen.
