Authorities in Austria are urging skiers in Austria to be careful after a weekend that required intensive rescue operations. During Saturday, 30 avalanches were reported in the Tyrol area and search efforts for a man in his 60s had to be interrupted several times.
The search for the man has been resumed and during the night of Sunday a plow truck driver died. Avalanches have also hit skiers in St. Anton. During the day, three people could be dug out by rescue personnel.
Authorities warn of avalanche risk
The large number of avalanches over the weekend is believed to be due to an intense snowfall that hit the area for several days. Authorities advise skiers to be careful as the danger of avalanches is extensive in the country. Inexperienced riders in particular should be extra careful where they ride.
