The nuclear power project was originally supposed to be completed in 2009, but has been marked by seemingly endless delays and cost overruns.
Last year, test operation finally began, raising hopes that the new Olkiluoto 3 reactor would reduce Finland’s import needs ahead of a feared crisis winter for electricity prices.
The test operation has indeed produced electricity, but at the same time it has also been accident-prone and unstable. Right now, the reactor is shut down again, and test production is expected to be able to resume only on Friday, the operator TVO announces according to the news agency STT.
And normal production is then delayed for more than a month, until March 14 – if no more problems occur.
