Calle Halfvarsson has during this season received a lift in the ski tracks.
And skiing legend Per Elofsson has been impressed by the Swedish star.
– He has shown that he is back at a completely different level than what he has been at in recent years, Elofsson says in an interview with Sportbibeln.
He is one of Swedish skiing’s all-time greats. Per Elofsson dominated with three WC golds, a total of six championship medals and he won the overall World Cup twice.
Elofsson’s career
Throughout his career, Elofsson had to fight against competitors who doped, and in 2005 he had enough. At just 28 years old, he ended his career and put his skis on the famous shelf.

Since then, he has, among other things, worked as an expert commentator at major skiing championships and the Olympics. He still follows what is happening in the tracks and now gives his clear analysis of the national skiing team today.

Paying tribute to Frida
On the men’s side, Sweden has had to struggle a lot in recent years, but now Elofsson sees the light in the dark tunnel.
– I think both William Poromaa and Calle Halfvarsson have done well, above all it’s great fun that Calle has come back as strong as he has. Last year, people wondered if it was just a stroke of luck, but he has shown that he is back at a completely different level than what he has been at in recent years. It’s great fun, because he seems much more harmonious. It may have to do with him becoming a father and he may have a different approach to his sport, says Per in an interview with Sportbibeln.
– William has also had good results, a bit unlucky and out of position in some cases. But he is still young and it is important that he does not get excited, his development must be allowed to take the time it takes. He’s not supposed to be at his best until he’s between 25 and 30 years old.

On the women’s side, things have looked good for a long time and this season there has been great success in both the sprints and the distance races. There talented skiers who Frida Karlsson, Ebba Andersson, Jonna Sundling, Maja Dahlqvist and Emma Ribom really took up the fight with Norway.

Elofsson is particularly impressed by Karlsson. And the 23-year-old is only going to get better.
– I don’t think Frida has peaked yet. From last year until this year she has become more stable, it feels like she had high peaks last year but that she has taken further steps this year. Frida and Ebba have been really good, now Ebba has been sick but has been riding great since then. Then it will be interesting to see Jonna Sundling and Linn Svahn, it’s great fun that especially Linn gets to come back. Her injury was much worse than first thought, and there have been a couple of operations there, says the skiing legend.
