The police can get help from the defense to solve serious crimes

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Since before, the Moderates and the Sweden Democrats have raised the proposal for a collaboration between the defense and the police with the aim of slowing down the criminal development in the big cities. Now Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) tells us Swedish daily newspaper that there are discussions with Defense Minister Pål Jonsson (M) about the proposal.

– There is room for interaction between the Armed Forces and the Police Authority. Exactly what it should look like and exactly what resources should be made available to which authority, in which situations, that is something that we have to take a closer look at, he says in connection with a visit to Skogås after a 15-year-old boy was shot of death.

SVT has contacted Gunnar Strömmer, who declines to comment, but announces via his press secretary that it “is subject to discussion but that there is no concrete information at the moment.”

Welcome review by the police

Furthermore, Strömmer believes in the report that the strengthened police force in the last month has had a positive effect on preventing and solving the crimes, but that there are underlying problems still. On the one hand, he has continued confidence in the police leadership, while on the other hand he welcomes a “critical debate and a critical review of the police”.

– The national crime detection rate is far too low. When it comes to fatal shootings nationally, it is around 20 percent. The police themselves make the assessment that too much of the resources go to administration and too little to operational police work. They have been tasked with reviewing that.
