A man in his 40s has been detained by the Stockholm District Court on suspicion of attempted terrorist financing, reports Ekot in Sveriges Radio. According to the suspicions, the man has tried to finance the Kurdish terrorist organization PKK.

The man is a Turkish citizen according to Ekot. The suspicions of terrorist crimes arose in connection with an investigation into attempted extortion in Stockholm.

– In that connection, a loaded firearm was used. The collection has taken place on behalf of an organization, says Hans Ihrman, deputy chief prosecutor at the national unit for security cases, to the radio.

– As the evidence stands, he can be linked to the PKK’s organization.

In addition to attempted terrorist financing, the man is suspected of attempted aggravated extortion and aggravated weapons offences.

According to Ekot, it is about an incident in central Stockholm earlier in January. An armed man then allegedly entered a restaurant and uttered threats, then shot into the air outside.
